The Octagonal Imari Vase is produced from underglazed hand-decorated porcelain. Underglaze decoration is a method of applying the pattern to the ceramic surface before it is glazed. This ensures the decoration remains completely durable and the surface of the ceramic has a uniform finish.
Imari porcelain was exported to Europe extensively from the port of Imari, between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The name therefore derives from the port of export.
The detail of the blue and white Chinese-style decoration is very fine.
Available without a base or with a range of bases.
