Our aim as a business is to be more sustainable, to drive positive labour practices and to philanthropically support our communities. As a company, we believe the impact we have on our employees, customers and communities extends well beyond the walls of our showrooms and factory.
People
We support the causes our employees, suppliers and customers care about and the communities where we trade. We actively encourage teamwork and develop long term relationships with our clients.
There is a strong ethos of creativity and loyalty within the business. Many employees have been at Vaughan for over 10 years and creativity and innovation have been the core values from the inception of the business in 1983. We actively encourage employees to offer new ideas and better ways of working.
Our employees work to a strict HSE policy to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors.
Vaughan recognises it is critical to be inclusive. We strive to ensure that every member of staff regardless of age, gender, background or race is valued and encouraged to fulfill their potential.
We are a member of United in Design; an organisation which aims to promote inclusivity and racial diversity within the interior design industry.
Vaughan is committed to ensuring the highest standards of ethics and respect for workers' rights throughout its supply chain and has long-term relationships with our suppliers.
We are delighted to have collaborated with the charity Watts of Love by staging two Made in the Shade campaigns in 2019 and 2020 bringing together the international design community and giving light to those in need.
Watts of Love is a non-profit global solar lighting organisation helping people to raise themselves out of darkness and poverty.
Product
We source our products responsibly, working closely with our suppliers to ensure high standards.
Our collection covers a spectrum of styles and eras, from 17th century to modernism, yet almost every piece has a signature aesthetic. Renowned for timeless design and their enduring quality, our products are rarely affected by fleeting trends. This means that the majority of our products are in active use decades later.
More than 90% of Vaughan products are made from recyclable materials. Our products by their very nature, being made predominantly from brass, glass, and ceramic are all easily and readily recyclable. We also use Alabaster, wood, ceramic, linen and silk which are all natural products.
Our overall waste has been reduced by two thirds, in part due to our work with suppliers to ensure, wherever possible, components are supplied to us in packaging which can be re-used for final product distribution.
Our products, being made predominantly from brass, glass and ceramic, are therefore easily and readily recyclable and would not contribute to landfill even if discarded by the end user. Brass scrap commands a significant value and is traded all over the world for reuse.
Vaughan conforms to European WEEE regulations, ensuring safe and responsible collection/recycling of all electrical waste.
Planet
We strive to reduce, reuse and recycle. The factories with whom we work are tasked with ensuring that they minimise waste output and maximise energy efficiency.
We continue to take action to reduce our carbon footprint. Recent actions include reducing business travel, increased use of video conferencing and improving energy efficiency in all of our buildings.
Vaughan works with several waste management partners, who in turn, recycle all of our scrap electrical components, brass, waste cardboard and polystyrene. We constantly look to further reduce the waste we send to landfill, minimise the use of paper and re-use or recycle packaging.
100% of Vaughan suppliers have confirmed RoHS and REACH compliance to EU legislative requirements, ensuring hazardous materials and substances are controlled or excluded from their manufacturing processes.
